Saving Time

I’m not a fan of Daylight Savings Time. For one thing, I don’t like the process of changing all my clocks. I don’t think my clocks like it either. And I think switching times back and forth plops everyone into a state of jet-lag twice a year which results in increased mistakes and accidents.

I would have our government pick a time system and stick with it. I really don’t care which system – just pick one.

In fact, I’ll propose a slightly different system. It’s not a new system, however, I don’t think it’s been tried under the tyranny of clocks and schedules. But it is certain to add some interest to the day. Here’s how it works –

By decree the instant of sun rise is 6:00am and the instant of sunset is 6:00pm.

Of course the length of hours would be slightly different every day – in the summertime the hours would be longer than hours in the wintertime. And the further from the equator you went the greater the variation would be.

One of the advantages could be seen in the observation that 60 mph in the summertime would be considerably more sedate than 60 mph in the winter. Winters are cold and everyone benefits by zipping around anyway. The people near the North Pole would have a problem. But they never know what time it is anyway.

What do you think about my system? It’s silly isn’t it? Or is it? It would be very difficult to enforce because of the constant change. Maybe that would be a good thing for us because it would mean the end of time pressure and the stress brought with it. Also it is pretty much the way the rest of the world is – plants and animals don’t live by clocks and calendars.

My time system is actually God’s time because He’s the one who wound up the great clock of the world, and days have started at sunup and ended at sundown since the beginning. He also made us to be creatures of time; and there will be timepieces in eternity.

See Genesis 1:14 and Revelation 21:23 and 22:2

Each of us is a unique spiritual being. We are born individually, die individually and stand before God every moment of our lives as an individual. No matter how large a group we are in, our relationship with God is one on one. Therefore our worship and each of our styles of worship must be accordingly unique. That concept is developed and expanded in the book “Worshiping Alone” available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Booklocker. If you haven’t read it, please consider doing so.
