If we think of time as a horizontal line of infinite length stretching out toward both horizons, we see that the present or ‘now’ is only a dot on that line and has no dimension at all. ‘Now’ is only the connecting instant between the past and the future. But our existence is only in that instant of the ‘now’ – the things of the future do not exist yet and the things of the past are no longer with us – only memories. Because of that, the points of our lives represented by the little ‘now-dots’ are logically of no size whatever – non-existent – Yet, here we are.
Who Are We?
We are creatures of time – made to exist within it. Our existence, our language, and even our very thoughts are all dependent on time. Even in our language, our verbs have past, present and future tense and things around us must happen before, during or after other things. It is impossible for any of us to think of everything at once – only in sequence. Our futures reside in an aspect of time we call eternity.
We long to change the past to correct our errors – yet no one can do that. We yearn to manipulate the future to improve our happiness – yet no one can do that either. We are stuck on our individual time dots like butterflies pinned to a collector’s board – but a board in motion.
A Different Kind of Intelligence
God is different. He is a different kind of intelligence. It is absurd to think that a different kind of intelligence would function the way ours does. He is not like us especially with respect to time. God is omniscient – He not only knows everything instantly and simultaneously, He knows all the possibilities. God is omnicronant – He created time and exists outside of it – always has and always will. He is outside of time like a potter is outside his clay pot.
We are God’s creation even in eternity
The apostle John tells us something about that eternity. He says everything in heaven and earth and will be done over – created new. Sort of Creation 2.0. Everything will be different. Our souls will still exist, but our bodies will be different – very different but recognizable. Even things like atoms and atomic particles will likely be different. (see Rev 21:1,5)
One thing that apparently will remain more-or-less the same is time. It will be somewhat different of course, but still there. We will not be able to see the sun, the moon and the stars because there won’t be any night – only daytime – comfortable daytime. (see Rev 21:23-25)
Yet God has given us a timepiece in the Tree of Life itself. (see Rev 21) The Tree will produce a new fruit every month marking out the months of the year. Undoubtedly there will be buds and blossoms and times of ripening to identify the weeks. (see Rev 22:2) Things will still be orderly and sequential in eternity.
Your verbs will still have tenses. Your thoughts will still go from one thing to the next and your wrist watch will probably continue to make sense. But you may no longer deal with time that way.
We are being taught right now how to live in that new creation of the future. Unfortunately it seems that, for one reason or another, not everyone will be there. However, we are told that everyone is capable of continuing in that existence if they follow the guidance of the Teacher God sent to us – the aspect of God that resides within our framework of time – His son, Jesus.
How are your lessons going? I understand there are some who need special tutoring. Perhaps you have learned enough already to be able to help them.

Each of us is a unique spiritual being. We are born individually, die individually and stand before God every moment of our lives as an individual. No matter how large a group we are in, our relationship with God is one on one. Therefore, our worship and each of our styles of worship must be accordingly unique. That concept is developed and expanded in the book “Worshiping Alone” available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Booklocker. If you haven’t read it, please consider doing so.
