Not all prayers need to be spontaneous. Sometimes we can come across a prayer written by someone else or a passage in scripture that says exactly what we would like to say and appeals to our souls in a special way. When we find such things, we should accept them and use them as we would our own. That isn’t an issue of copyright. Rather it is an issue of the soul. It is a means of expressing yourself more deeply and fully to God.
A prayer card is a just such a prayer printed on a small card – like business card stock. Such cards can be used to help stimulate prayer when there is a loss for words or as a way of encouragement when you are feeling discouraged. They can be given to others to help encourage them as well.
Prayer cards can be made to be used as keepsakes at funerals, weddings, births or any other event that you might consider special. Pre-made prayer cards are available of course, but making your own adds a special, personal touch that can be remembered by those you share them with.
The written prayer can grow in a slightly different, but even more personal direction as well.
Creating the perfect prayer is an effort that can, of course, never be achieved, but the blessing of working on such a thing can be profound. Writing out your special prayer, then editing, revising and improving it daily (or more often) can be a great time of meditation and worship. Editing and re-editing your prayer can, not only help you to more closely state your exact needs, but it allows you to include aspects you hadn’t initially considered. Would you do this for your savior?
If you choose to pursue such a perfect prayer, I would encourage you to tell no one what is in it – keep its contents solely between you and your Savior. That way you can organize and refine it as honestly as possible. Honesty in this matter is crucial. It is true that God already knows your heart, but writing, editing and re-editing a perfect prayer can help you to know and refine your own heart. You will certainly be taught things about yourself you could learn in no other way. (Matthew 6:5-8)
I would love to know if you decide to pursue a perfect prayer – but I don’t want to know what’s in it.

Each of us is a unique spiritual being with a physical body. We are born individually, die individually and stand before God every moment of our lives as an individual. No matter how large a group we are in, our relationship with God is one on one. Therefore our worship and each of our styles of worship must be accordingly unique. That concept is developed and expanded in the book “Worshiping Alone” which is available through Booklocker, Amazon, Barnes and Noble or your favorite bookstore. If you haven’t read it, please consider doing so.
